Happy Hobbies

A bowl of soup with melted cheese on top.Hi everybody! It’s been awhile since I’ve had a newsletter out, notwithstanding that I had to prepare for twenty people during the Christmas holidays; then clean up after the crew left. There are some traditions that I just may have to revise; like hosting all three of my adult children, their eleven children combined, plus one great, and three dogs. This menagerie is for a total of 5 days during the Christmas week. The non-stop cooking, snacking, game-playing, and floor mopping has taken a toll on my senses. Except for the stomach-virus plague which hit in rounds, we did have a lot of fun.

Did you know that January is National Hobby Month? I had no idea, but I must say that I love hobbies. So, I looked up 10 of the craziest hobbies. They range from Duct-Tape Art, Taphophilia, which is grave-yard tomb hunting, collecting Tea Bag Cover Artistry, and even Egg Shell Carving. I can see my husband taking up the duct-tape art, and I must admit, when visiting the cemetery, I have found interest in scanning the graves of the famous.

As you can guess, one of my favorite hobbies is creating recipes and cooking up anything from roots to shoots. I love to cook! I also love to serve anyone who dares to enter my house. I can remember the mailman coming to our house when I was a kid, and my mother inviting him in for a biscotti and expresso. He never came in, but he would stand on the porch and indulge.

What makes any hobby worth the while is the creativity within the person. This is where I come in. Some of my food creations are just okay, but then there are times when every blind pig finds an acorn. I think you will agree when you taste my fabulous Creamy Mushroom Soup with Caramelized Onions & Gruyere Cheese. I really wanted to master a great French Onion soup, but I also loved the Creamy Mushroom Soup. Why not combine the two? I did and the result was great. I hope you all love this one as much as my husband did; he ate 3 bowls!

Have a blessed New Year in 2016, and keep the fire going in all of your relationships! There is just nothing better than family, even if they do bring their dogs.

God Bless,

Rosalie
